Candidate for the position of ANUSA Elections - NUS Delegates

Ben Yates (Grassroots ANUSA)

I’m Ben (he/him) and I’m running to be NUS Delegates. I am a co-convenor of the Environment Collective, a Senior Resident at Wright Hall and have previously been an ANUSA representative. I designed the Fossil Free Referendum in which all students get to vote in this election. I bring this activist experience to the NUS.

The NUS has failed students repeatedly for decades. Careerist party hacks have used it as nothing more than fodder for their CVs. We need a fearless, activist NUS. My plans for the NUS revolve around centering environmental activism at the NUS. The NUS shamefully abolished its Environment Officer several years ago. This is contrary to students’ expectations around sustainability.

I will sit independently with the left-wing Grassroot Independents to achieve these policies and Grassroots ANUSA delegates are committed to being the only ones to handle our ballots at the NUS. www.grassrootsanusa.com/nus
